How to Generate a Furniture Freshener

Furniture fresheners help remove odors from upholstery, including sofas, chairs, curtains and carpet. Commercial fresheners, however, are expensive and often contain chemicals and strong perfumes. Should you would rather lighter scents, want to use more green products and revel in saving money on cleaning supplies, you can make your own furniture freshener and customize the scent.

Commercial Copy

The furniture and fabric refresher sprays on supermarket shelves are able to make your upholstery smell as fresh as a field of flowers, but they shouldn’t cost just like a dozen roses. Whip up your personal and recycle some plastic in precisely the exact same moment. Add 3 tbsp of liquid fabric softener and 1 tbsp baking soda into an old, rinsed out spray bottle — an all-purpose cleaner or window cleaner bottle works well. Fill out the bottle the rest of the way with warm water and shake it up to blend. Spritz the freshener on bedding, upholstery, carpet, curtains and rugs — but do not forget to check it out in an inconspicuous spot first.

Get Your Green On

If you would rather all-natural cleaning products into the industrial brands, then use vinegar. This multipurpose household cleaner can also neutralize musty scents and pet scents, such as urine. Scrub tough stains on sofas, rugs and chairs with a mixture of 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar, adding a squirt of dishwashing liquid or Castile soap if needed. To earn a spray fabric refresher, add 30 drops of antibacterial essential oil, like tea tree, peppermint, lavender or lemon, to 1 cup vodka or white vinegar. If you prefer to dilute the vinegar, then add 1 cup of water also.

Shake, Shake, Shake

To freshen upholstery, carpet and rugs without water, then sprinkle them with baking soda or dried lavender. Let it sit for 30 minutes to an hourand then vacuum with an upholstery attachment. Unlike a few perfumed, commercial carpet- and – upholstery-refresher powders, baking soda really absorbs smells. Dried lavender adds a pure scent without being overpowering. For extra freshness, then move the furniture outdoors first and allow it to sit in sunlight.

Don’t overlook the Wood

Refresh tables and other wood furniture with homemade furniture polish. If you like the lemon scent of industrial dusting sprays, mix 1 cup vegetable or olive oil using 1/2 cup lemon juice or a few drops of lemon essential oil. If you have unfinished timber, use 1 pint mineral oil and up to 1 tsp lemon essential oil instead. For everyday cleaning and refreshing of timber and other sealed hardwood, use 1 cup vinegar to 1 cup water in a spray bottle. Put on the oil or spray with a clean, white cloth.
